Meaning: The bird
Latin pāvō → Old English pēa + cock → English peacock.
Where pāvō itself came from is a genuine fork in the road. It is often traced, along with Greek taṓs, to Tamil tōkai, possibly by way of Persian, which would make Peacock a third South Asian credit on this wheel alongside Indigo and Haldi. Other scholars hold that the Latin just imitates the bird's cry, which the Romans wrote down as paupulo.
The color hides the better secret. Peacock blue-green isn't a pigment at all. The fine structures inside each feather are shaped so that they interfere with light, and the color you see is the result. There is no blue pigment anywhere in a peacock feather. The most extravagant blue in the animal kingdom is architecture, not paint.
