Proto-Indo-European *wódr̥ → Proto-Slavic voda → Russian вода, "water" → this anchor's voda.
It is the same ancient root that gives English water, Greek hydōr (as in hydrate) and Hittite watar, one of the oldest and steadiest words humanity owns. Its most famous descendant is a nickname: vodka means, literally, "little water."
Voda isn't a Russian color word. It is a Russian thing-word standing in for a color: the cyan of clear water, named after water itself, the substance every culture on Earth has used to see this hue. That was a deliberate choice, because Russian's actual color story is extraordinary enough to deserve an anchor of its own.
